This self-described “left-handed gay Jew” (whom class-act Dick Armey once referred to as “Barney Fag”… look, if you go by “Dick”, you really shouldn’t be throwing stones, you know?) has my vote for best quotes of the week:

First it was:
“It’s the biggest Hail Mary in the history of football… or Mary’s.”

And today it’s:
“McCain is Andy Kaufman in his Mighty Mouse costume (singing) ‘Here I Come to Save the Day.”

This country needs more left-handed gay Jews.

(Incidentally, Andy Kaufman, Tony Clifton, and Mighty Mouse are all younger than John McCain.)

Pop-Tarts are younger than John McCain.

I love Wikipedia just as much as the next guy who craves little bits of flawed yet easy-to-digest information, but I just have to draw the line somewhere. I absolutely refuse to believe that “its name came from one of the hottest things at the time: Pop Art which Andy Warhol made a household name with his giant soup cans and Brillo boxes”.

That aside, the great and noble Pop-Tart is just about as close to perfection as one can hope for in this life of ours.

This is a cheap stunt he’s pulling because his poll numbers are slipping – we all need to call him on it.

Obama supporter and chief debate negotiator Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., told MSNBC that “we can handle both” when asked about his reaction to McCain’s call to postpone the first debate because of the administration’s bailout plan.

One of the main arguments behind this blog was always that, while I couldn’t think of any reasons why race or gender could impact negatively on someone’s ability to be an effective President, I could think of a number of reasons why age might matter. There are the obvious reasons (health, memory, stamina, the likelihood of being a one-term President, etc.) but there’s also the distinct possibility that a 72 year old might not be able to relate to the concerns of an overwhelmingly younger population (roughly 91%, according to recent U.S. Census data).

Many people took me to task on this and said that – by the same logic – Barack Obama wouldn’t be able to relate to the roughly 83% of the country that isn’t black.

To them I say, watch the video of Obama’s speech on race from back in March and then tell me you still think it’s an issue:
