Am I being "age-ist"? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I'm thinking that it's not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

I agree with you, and support the 2 day waiting period, and even think it should be extended to seven, because for me, weapons are a recreational item (and will soon be a professional item when I sign up).

However I disagree that guns as a hobby kills people, and it is really only when they are misused (or used properly depending on your interpretation of their history) that they are a danger to people.

Fun site until I ran into this unrelated anti-gun rant. Terrorists have habeus corpus rights, but Americans don't have 2A rights? I'm ashamed that this is even a partisan question.

I understand that you don't like the backlash you're getting for your anti-freedom post, but hey, you posted it.

so charming...

i think it's perfectly reasonable to point out the age of several of the justices in order to highlight the likelihood that some will get replaced under a mccain presidency.

thanks.

This is the worst comparison ever. "55% of the supreme court is older than John McCain". If it were 8, I might be impressed. What a fucking joke of a site.

5 out of 9 Justices? Hello??

That's enough to form a serious majority youth voting bloc.

Sorry, gotta disagree with you on the 2nd Amendment ruling. Yes, people are killed with weapons. That doesn't change the fact that our constitution guarantees our right to them. People are also killed by free speech (and if you don't believe it you haven't thought about it hard enough). If people don't like it then they should find enough others who agree with them to amend the constitution, not pretend that it doesn't say something that it does.

Also, background checks are required at all gun shows on firearms purchased from FFL licensed dealers. The only non-background-check purchases are those that are private transactions between private individuals. They are no different than if you and I were neighbors and I agreed to sell you a shotgun I didn't want anymore. In that case no background check required, with the only restriction being that if I am aware of any reason you cannot legally own a gun then I am not able to sell to you.

I don’t know about you but I always thought that if someone is complaining that they have to wait 48 hours to get an abortion, then that’s pretty much the woman you don’t want to have an abortion in the first place.

You know what? Find another hobby besides f*cking.

If you want to say McCain is too old to be president, so be it, but at least be consistent. The older judges are the ones who are protecting our civil liberties and against shoot outs in the streets. So before you knock McCain for age, think about how much better the older judges are. The best reason not to vote for McCain is because of his ideas, his smug attitude, and the military values that form his world view. Does anyone else find it amazing that the son and grandson of naval admirals, born to entitlement and power, accuses an African-American who made it on his own of elitism?

I'm a lot less worried about citizens getting guns. Fun to argue about, but giving Americans too many rights doesn't really keep me up at night (although the gun fights outside my apartment in downtown Seattle sometimes did). I'm lot more worried about Exxon getting off scott-free. I feel much more threatened by Exxon, Big Pharma, the Religious WRONG, the Military Industrial complex and Dick fucking Cheney than by the kids running around with guns in their pants. The baggy-pants gunslingers on the block won't drag us into world war fucking three - so I choose my battles.

Sorry, the strikethrough tags I put around Judge did not show up. I was trying to indicate that Justice should replace Judge.

8: thanks for writing. sorry to have gone down a notch or two (or ten) in your book but that's the way i feel.

i don't want to get into a debate here about different interpretations of the framers' intentions - it's not the time, place, or spirit of this blog - but, much like the following clip from the west wing, i think we need to adapt to changing times and new problems:

You just lost a lot of respect from me with this one. Gun ownership rights were important enough for our founding fathers to include in our Bill of Rights.

For the record, I do not own a gun. I do not mind a waiting period if I go to purchase a gun (even though I fail to see how said waiting period protects anyone). I *do* mind someone saying that I can't own one, because our Bill of Rights says I can.

I'm all in favor of anything that makes it harder for crooks to get guns, Background checks, waiting periods, etc. It makes sense. I mean after all who needs a gun right the heck now? Unless you have this crazy psycho stalker and you fear for your life.

But this decision isn't backwards. It doesn't make it easier for whackjobs to get a gun, it just makes it legal for normal people to own a gun and THAT is a good thing.

Oh, and Rachael your comment makes no sense. This blog is called things that are younger than McCain. If we stopped talking about people younger than John McCain, that would be kind of stupid, wouldn't it?
