Things younger than Republican Presidential candidate (oh, and did I forget to mention war hero?) John McCain

Am I being “age-ist”? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I’m thinking that it’s not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

Coincidence? Or foreshadowing…

The #1 song on the day John McCain was born was “Did I Remember?” by Shep Fields, from his album “That Old Feeling”.

  1. but can we hear it? OH, is that on 33rpm or a 78?

  2. pansypoo –

It would have been a 78. The 33 rpm record hadn’t been invented yet (definitely younger than John McCain).

Which raises the question: what does our wise Administrator mean by “album”? 78s had one song on each side and mostly were issued a record at a time. I’d bet the “album” pictured came out much later, and compiled his earlier recordings.

  3. It is true that 78′s only had a maximum of about 4 minutes on each side. They were sold in sets (I have some from my grandma!) in a book form which is where the name “album” came from…. The ones I have resemble a “slide-in” photo-album only there is a 78 in each sleeve.

Whatever the situation with Shep Fields original releases, some prescient soul decided to include the McCain birthday #1 on the “That OLD Feeling” album, which IMHO is pretty funny…..

  8. And mono! Don’t forget, John McCain is older than stereo movies (Fantasia, 1940), and radio!

Actually, Obama might be older than the widespread use of stereo FM radio… but still… McCain’s older than the widespread use of stereo… or color movies, for that matter.

    McCain’s younger than… talkies.
