Am I being “age-ist”? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I’m thinking that it’s not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

I have to disagree with you 1. What I can’t understand is this: if McCain can be so funny, and seem so comfortable talking to a crowd of people and reporters etc. why do his attempts at humor fail so miserably and he looks supremely uncomfortable speaking publicly on the campaign trail.

Who knows? But I actually really liked these speeches because desipite all the negative campaigning by these two it was nice to see them be funny make fun of themselves and each other and in the end compliament each other like real leaders of a country should do.

I thought them about equally well-written - presumably not by the candidates - and McCain’s a bit better delivered. Obama had his nose in his notes and was laughing at his own jokes before he said them. I got the impression he hadn’t read through the speech beforehand. And if McCain had the time to rehearse a comedy routine and Obama didn’t, it might say something about their respective priorities at this time…
And what #3 said - it’s good to see they can call a truce for the evening.
If I were looking for one Nasty Political Bit, it’d be where McCain put everyone there in an awkward position by working in a pause-for-applause right after “the rights of the unborn”. Deliberate?

I am in full agreement w/#4. These scripts were written by professional writers and “acted” N(poorly I might add) by the candidates. The whole thing just made me cringe. I’ve heard some folks say that because both were “willing to be there poking fun at each other and themselves” that somehow this shows their humanity. Like they actually had a choice.
Maybe I’m being harsh but I’ve spent the last 8 years laughing at the current administration and I’m just not interested in being entertained by more amateurs.
