Am I being "age-ist"? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I'm thinking that it's not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

[...] Anyway, the problem with this ad is that it doesn’t rebut McCain’s primary criticism — that Obama is only a celebrity. Obviously, whether or not you believe that is up to debate. I would posit that securing the Democratic nomination from the Clinton political machine, operating a gargantuan and well-oiled campaign, having prescient foreign policy views, and addressing issues in a relatively honest manner, more than accounts for the fact that McCain is literally older than duct tape.
Duct tape is so-called because it was invented for sealing the joints of air conditioning/heating ducts. It has NO relation to ducks, to the amphibious assault vehicle in WWII called the "Duck" etc. It is a matter of LOUSY SPELLING and REALLY CRAPPY ENUNCIATION by poorly educated Americans.

Nyah, nyah, nyah.

And John McCain is older than some of the mold on my bathtub shower curtain.

There are no "false" leaders withoug "false" followers. -- Vernon Howard (my gru)
Next on the issue McCain's age, well:
People should remember that Ayatollah K. was 80+ when he took over Persia and took on the American empire! Well, McCain is not quite as zeleous or revolutionary, but then again, aren't villages governed by the councils of "elders?" What's wrong with being seasoned and experienced? Nothing, just about, and being 65+, I can attest to that.
Besides, so many wonderful "rational" arguments ringing true by the young idealists and intellectually gifted ones... Not very persuasive if you have too many "good" reasons (Just read the new issue of the NewScientist given as a birthday present to JC).
All these wonderful articles and comments.. Well..Well done, but then again:
-- De Ja Vu all over again, as Yogi Bear woudl say! Reminds me very much of the young of the idealist intellectuals of 1960s. And where did that go? I culminated in Woddstock aand 1968 democratic convention Chicago. Well, I was not there, but watched the event on media as it unfolded. (one slight advantage of being old.. all over again).
-- Besides, all those hippies became yuppies and hedge fund managers. What do you call that? Cynicism?

Speaking as an audio-visual tech,I think duct tape is the most useful invention ever.Everyday techs around the world find new uses.
To some techs(like me) duct tape is the thing that holds this world together.

As a technical Theatre professional, I NEVER permit duct tape in my Theatre! Gaff tape is similar, but FAR superior. Amongst other things, it doesn't leave behind a sticky residue as duct tape often does.

By the way - It IS "Duct tape" - as it was developed and intended to seal air ducts together. So many un-informed people called it "Duck tape" that now there is in fact a manufacturer by that name.

I have no objection to John McCain based on his age - There are FAR too many more legitimate reasons to be opposed to him. See

Duck vs duct, feet vs tape
Decades ago we were taping a spot for a men's shoe retailer. Easter sale. We laid out shoes and Easter eggs on grass carpet and released live baby ducks to wander through the scene. So cute. The money-shot at the end was to be a little baby duck standing in a size 15 shoe.

We set the duck in the shoe but couldn't get our arms out of the shot before the duck hopped out. After a couple of tries--you guessed it--we rolled up a wad of gaffer's tape (duct tape), put it in the shoe and gently pressed the duck feet on the duct tape. It held long enough to get the shot.

No, the duck was not harmed. At the end of the day we took them all back to the feed store. They said "no refunds". We said, "Please. We're giving you the ducks. You can sell them again."

Just dropping in from Australia and all I can say is for whatever reason please do not elect McCain.
Looks as if Obama will be the Democrat nominee and from the coverage here he has the brain and the energy to do the job.
He seems to be garnering support and donations from a wide range of Americans so the task for you folk is to encourage people to vote. Every vote counts.
Those of us elsewhere in the world are just onlookers so we're counting on you.

Appreciate your humor--mostly...

It's interesting to note that the "framers" of the Constitution set a minimum age (35) for President, but saw no need to set a maximum. Looking at qualifying by age only, McCain has now qualified twice!

BTW--The Jefferson Nickel is younger than John McCain; the U.S. Mint was still producing "Buffalo Nickels" in 1936. The Jefferson Nickel was first minted in 1938.

I'm new to this site, and I love it. Anything that breaks up my routine of laughing at cats has to be a good thing.

What I think is super fantastic about that picture, is by the looks of the cords on the right, It appears as it they've been doing some remodeling! Looks like some power tools, there.

Resourcefulness and Duct Tape do go hand in hand!
