Things younger than Republican Presidential candidate (oh, and did I forget to mention war hero?) John McCain

Am I being “age-ist”? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I’m thinking that it’s not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

“Hey, you should really turn this into a book!”

OK, done.

So here’s the story: the day the site went live (May 12th), I got hundreds and hundreds of emails almost immediately… most were saying how much they liked the site, a bunch called me every foul name you can think of, and a handful were from literary agents asking if I wanted to turn the idea into a book. As my philosophy of late is to try to say “yes” to things as opposed to “no” (if for no other reason than just to see where it takes me), I replied back to the one that seemed the most legit.

Long story short, it’s been an insane amount of work but it looks great and I hope everyone likes it. (Links to the various online booksellers are below…. if you were so inclined to buy a copy. Or 10.)

Amazon.com
Barnes & Noble
Borders
Powell’s

Two points worth noting:

I’m not getting rich off this thing, money is not my motivation, and the thought of this becoming a book was miles off my radar when I first had the idea for the blog.

The book will be largely new content… it’s not just the blog in paperback!

And finally….

For all those who are visiting the site for the first time thanks to the story that went out on the AP wire, stick around for a while! Scroll down, view some of the past pages, or use the “Categories” navigation at right to go to specific subjects.

  1. Your right, I remember coming back from Vietnam, and the stories about Admiral McCains son being captured. Dad said he served with Admiral McCain and about the time Johnny was born he bought 15 rental homes for additional income. He ended up with close to 1,000 homes for rent. I asked him abut Johnny and he said he wasn’t worth a bucket of warm spit.

  13. I saw people making t-shirts; badges, buttons, etc. (Zazzle, I believe), so there’s probably going to be a run (and a profit) on those items as well.

The copyright puzzles me if you’re using other comments made by readers, so I’m guessing you’re using only our posts and your original material in order to obtain a copyright that protects your intellectual property.

I think anyone who might have posted, then decided to make buttons/badges/t-shirts out of their own comment, will probably have ‘first dibs’ on any copyright. As I remember, you can’t copyright a slogan but you can copyright a book and im-bed the slogan(s.

All-in-all, with so many banners/books/buttons that have already flooded the place (and more to come), you’ll get your share, and good memories of how your idea resulted in revenue for something you built and ‘they came’.
