Things younger than Republican Presidential candidate (oh, and did I forget to mention war hero?) John McCain

Am I being “age-ist”? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I’m thinking that it’s not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

Karl Rove.

Karl Rove is younger than John McCain.

Is it possible that – finally – the so-called “Rovian” tactics that the GOP has used to win/steal elections are no longer working on the American voter? Is the mainstream media – finally – waking up and calling bullshit on the true “pig in lipstick”?

Seems that way…

  3. I know you want to encourage the idea that American voters have “had enough” with Rovian tactics, but…don’t hold your breath.

Remember, Cheney & Bush were sold, twice.

The Republicans are Masters of the Universe. At spin.

Rove is reaching the casual voter, someone who barely tunes in to politics, but can be swayed with simple, gross deception.

Like the Swift Boating of Kerry, it’s “game on”. It will be “game over” if things don’t change at Obama HQ.

Obama and his people need to keep their ear on the street (in the Walmart?). And respond better. Way better.

Thomas Freidman (NYT) got it right yesterday: (free registration at NYT)

If Rove can win this thing (again) after what Cheney and Bush and the Republicans have done to our county, it will be so very sad, and familiar.

And a triumph of marketing, *again*. Thanks for doing your part in trying not to let it happen.

The rest of youse: Send ‘em some coin, please. And hope they get some fire in their bellies.

  5. pansy, granted the 2000 election was stolen in FL and maybe the 2004 in OH. Also it’s true that U.S. voters seem to be fooled more easily — but again the Rovian mastery of the media that the Republicans use has contributed to all this, as well that single-minded, eye-on-the-prize dedication to obtaining power.

What I’m saying is that ppl who want to see things be different this time around need to step it up, big time, and now.

It’ll be close. Tip it. Convince the Walmart shopper.

  6. 4,

Problem: People don’t see things your way. You need to persuade them to change their minds.

Really bad solution: Start conversation with, “Why are you people so stupid?” People respond with, “F*** you and f*** off!” and they would be right to do so.

Bad solution: Throw up your hands, say, “The other side cheats,” and give up.

Good solution: Find people who don’t aggree with you (you could try Wal-mart or gas stations, starting with your neighbors may be a better bet), engage them in conversation, listen to their concerns, and if they’ll let you, respectfully tell them some things that maybe they havn’t heard/thought of. Be ready to source your information.

And again, when was the last time youse guys donated to Obama?
