Susan… I am ASMAMED that a person such as yourself who seems so well versed (note the sarcasm)would subscribe to the complete idiocy that is innate in all forms of nationalism… i have yet to hear one reasonable argument as to why America is the “greatest” country in the world… and though as a country it once had reason to be proud the ideals upon which it was founded were abandoned long ago…

You people make me sick!!!! What is wrong with you??? He was a prisoner of war!!! How can you even say such a thing against him???? Do you honestly know what he went though??? I believe you are nothing! Have we forgotten the Reagan years? Reagan was an” old’ boy” an Cowboy! What is wrong with America have we lost our minds!!!!! I am a medical biller, and ever day I deal with our “turn a blind eye” mentality … We are turning over our information to India, Malaysia, and Africa are personal information . I have to call the customer services lines which are located in these Counties for “OUR” health claim information on a Dailey bases!!!! I do not believe the American public even has a clue that this is taken place……………….. I am so sick of this shit!!! You what to talk shit about Mc Cain; what is wrong with you, you should be more worried about your personal information being available to people of a foreign country than talking SHIT about a man who severed in a war!!!!!, and suffered for IT!!!!! I am ASMAMED OF YOU ALL!!!! on this website!!! If you spent more time being a part of our Nation, and the meaning of our Nation as a whole, than I could understand!!!! But, people who take part of this website are not helping our World, they are ending it!!! Look back, my friends, look back!!! To be fair, doesn’t Obama have pretty much the same position? Although McCain has shifted (or stayed) to the right on a lot of issues for this campaign, gay marriage, at least for now, hasn’t been one of them.

To me, it seems like he’s punting it back to the States so as not to have to take a firm stand and risk alienating anyone - his base or more liberal-minded people.

That it should be left up to the states isn’t really a half-assed position. Marriage laws typically are left up to the states–that’s why you go to the county courthouse, not the federal courthouse, to get a marriage license. The issue with McCain, and many Republicans, is whether the federal government should step in to amend the U.S. Constitution and prohibit those states that want to have gay marriage from having it. In the past, McCain has basically staked out the position that is as liberal as you can get in the Republican party, saying the government shouldn’t do this. But he’s also said he’s against gay marriage, which, unless he’s actually in favor of such an amendment, really means the only thing he can do is vote against it as a citizen in Arizona.
