Am I being "age-ist"? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I'm thinking that it's not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

I'm voting for Obama, but I'm not the middle class, I'm the poor class, the rapidly increasing group that is NEVER mentioned. I agree, someone with a degree from Harvard law probably can't relate to someone that can't get a minimum-wage job. Which is fine, I'm not expecting a presidential candidate to relate everything about my life. But Obama isn't exactly the everyman, either.

It wouldn't really matter how many cars or houses McCain has v. Obama if he hadn't started out with this nonsense of calling Obama "ELITIST".

It is the height of hypocrisy coming from McCain, as evidenced by his current lifestyle and his upbringing. It's a Rovian code word for "uppity {you know the rest}".

thank you for your thoughts I sure do respect them. I would just say that at the end of the day it does matter about the car's and the houses and all the fancy stuff the Obama's and the McCains have. Both have lots of extra so i am not defending either one of them. I think at the end of the day you vote for you think is going to best help your/our situation. Both of these men have great passions and idea's and dreams for this country and for that I give both of them tons of credit. I may not agree with their views and beliefs on everything, but I do think they both care. I think both John and Barack have had struggles in their lifes (in different ways) The important thing is when it is November 4th that we ALL go out vote for who we support. thank you Admin for sharing and I respect your views.

10,

thanks for posting... i have two thoughts on what you wrote:

for one, i think - in some respects - these ARE the issues. the images that a candidate puts out, and whether or not the way that they live is consistent with that image, speaks to their credibility and integrity... surely important campaign issues.

and, while anyone who is running for president is unquestionably distant from the day-to-day struggles of someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, you surely can say that some would find it easier to relate than others. clearly someone born with a silver spoon in his mouth (or, as maybe was the case with our current "leader", up his nose) doesn't have the same life experience to call upon as someone who might have grown up disadvantaged and took loans out for their higher education.

in other words, i think we should be looking at not where these guys are now but where they came from and what they had to do to get here.

As a person who DOES live paycheck to paycheck (alongside a large chunk of America), I am going to vote for Obama for two main reasons (besides, of course, his views on "moral issues"...)

One, his tax plan makes more sense than McCain's does, and I also don't believe in a tax cap (why shouldn't people pay taxes on the money they make if they are already grossly rich?)It doesn't make it less desirable to be rich, or more desirable to live paycheck to paycheck, like Bill O'Reilly seems to believe.
Two, I feel as an American, I deserve a better education. I'm not looking for a hand out. But, frankly, I feel like this entire nation needs to be college educated, and it's not too much to ask for a little help on the government's end.

So I really don't care how many cars anybody has. Just what they're gonna do to help the majority of this country out...and we f**kin' need it.

Tricia Okay, maybe I should have worded it different saying she is the nearest thing to middle class out of all of them. My eye glasses were $259 and they are nothing special but everything is so expensive how I guess. and lets not forget John Edwards spent $400 on a hair cut so both sides do it. I only make $42,000 yearly and I have to watch what I buy also but lucky for me I do NOT live pay check to pay check because I live within my means. Take care Tricia

Thomas -
No offense, but if you think 210k a year is middle class then I shudder to think what the majority of the country is. I have friends raising more than 3 kids on less than 40k a year.
Yeah it's still less than millions, but her eyeglasses were $400 dollars and I doubt she paid in quarters she saved.

You are probably right Pansypoo but I still think there is alot of diff between a 210K yearly income and the millions that the others get. I am not doggy them just making a point. thanks

I am black and I think the blacks are going to be disappointed in Obama when all is said and done. I think a lot of blacks think he is going to go in and do all this stuff for us. and he is NOT going to do that. remember his struggles are half of what we have had as full 100% blacks remember people he is half WHITE and likes to through up in our face all the time like he is better than us. I might vote for him because I think we should have a nigga in the white house but he aint going to do nothing for the blacks. Toby

I get tired of hearing people dog out women for voting for Sarah Palin or even for Hillary when she was in the race JUST because they are women. How is that any different from blacks voting for Obama because it is black it is the same thing so dont jusge someone. It is their vote and they can vote for who they want. Carole

I agree with Danny and I am voting for Obama, but honestly they do not understand our struggles at all. But I still think he will do the best for this country. the only true middle class person of these four is Sarah Palin all the rest have millions. she makes 140K and her husband I heard 70K but 210 K is not alot when you have 5 kids and house payment and car payments. so Sarah is truly MIDDLE CLASS but I am still not going to vote for her.
