The Grapes of Wrath is younger than John McCain.

I have to admit that I never read the book (1939) and was only turned on to the movie (1940) because of the Springsteen album (The Ghost of Tom Joad) but its message is timeless (I guess that’s part of what makes a classic).
In a nutshell, the economy is down the drain, lenders are foreclosing left and right, there are more applicants than there are jobs, and people are in search of a way to return to dignity.
Hmm, I wonder if they’ll ever make a sequel?

I knew you’d like this one. Dusty, classic old book; but younger than John McCain…

Gone with the Wind and the Wizard of Oz were both made in 1939 too. The movies, that is.

I’m well under 40, but can’t believe you’re so worried about his age. Would it be ok to “worry” about Obama’s race? Or perhaps to worry about Hillary’s sex?
Comment by Wow — May 14, 2008 @ 8:37 am
Worrying about McCain’s age is quite different than race or gender. The guy is going to kill over at any minute. He is well past the age where mental deterioration begins and dementia sets in. Obama’s race or Hillary’s gender dont affect our country the way McCain’s wretched oldness does. Think about it.

How about a blog with people or things less anti-American than “I don’t wear the flag ping” Obama or “this is the meanest country on earth, I have never been proud of my country until my husband ran for president” Michelle?
I don’t care about age, sex nor race. I care about ideas and Obama’s are scary to say the least. Welcome to the United States of France.

ramon,
i can’t tell you how little it matters to me whether or not someone wears a flag pin on their lapel. and, with regard to michelle’s comments, i for one wouldn’t want to held responsible today for opinions that i held in my 20’s…. would you?

Michelle’s comment were recent while campaigning for Obama.
Anyway my point is, we should look at ideas, character, and plans for the country rather than age, sex or race. I don’t share Obama’s and Hillary’s socialist ideas, they have been proven wrong over and over around the world. Although I am not happy with any candidate, I prefer McCain over those two at anytime and I’ll take Hillary over Obama at anytime.
Comment by Ramon — May 14, 2008 @ 10:20 am
Socialist ideas have been proven wrong around the world? Which one of Obama/Clinton’s policies, specifically, are you calling socialist? Do you mean universal health care, which has been successfully adopted by every major industrialized country other than the US? Do you mean doing something (anything!) about climate change?
Make no mistake, John McCain’s policies differ only slightly from President Bush’s, and those ideas have been continuously proven wrong over the past 8 years. Everything President Bush has done has failed, usually miserably. I’ll take Obama or Hillary over Bush III, thanks.
Oh, and McCain’s age is most definitely an issue. For someone who has sold himself as a foreign policy expert, he has an awfully hard time keeping Sunnis and Shiites straight - which is only a central issue in the most important foreign policy issue of the day. Either he’s having a “senior moment” or he just plain does not know the difference. Both of those possibilities should scare you.

The last Jewish Ghetto in Europe is younger than John McCain. Italian neo-realism is younger than John McCain (I know, I know, everybody’s favorite). Social Security is younger than John McCain. America’s peacetime army is younger than John McCain.

You should TOTALLY read The Grapes of Wrath. It will change your life. I think every American should be required to read it before graduating high school.
