Am I being "age-ist"? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I'm thinking that it's not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

Barbie Dolls were invented 22 years after John McCain was born, and they turn 50 this year. I only know this because I was born the same year as Barbie.

Hey, don't be messing with my Chuck. "Chuck Norris doesn't sleep, he waits" is my favorite t-shirt.

Back on topic - the Space Program is younger than McCain. NASA was started from military missle programs after WWII and with ex-Nazi scientists like Von Braun. And all the stuff we got from the space program, like velcro and Tang is younger than him too.

John Glenn is however, older than John McCain, born in 1921. I have to remember to add him to my 2009 death pool. Yeah, I said it.

Ex-Australian Prime Minister John Howard (at 67 years old) is younger than John McCain...and we voted him out last year for being too old!

The Polaroid Instant Camera is younger than McCain. So is the Polaroid Corporation. The camera was introduced in 1947, 10 years after the corporation was founded (1937). According to Wiki, they no longer manufacture the Instant Camera (as of February of this year, apparently).

Betamax, as above poster defends survival of LPs, is alive and well. In fact it is the preferred format for many, if not most, TV shows on the air today.

I wanna know if Lime-green jello, the color of McSame's backdrop for last Tuesday's speech, is younger than McCaint.

The Annual Iditarod Sled Dog Race is younger than him. It started in 1973. I thought that was interesting.

In the same family: VHS tapes, invented in 1976. Doesn't seem that long ago, but they managed to win format war after format war against Betamax, Laserdiscs, etc...

Not a bad idea on inventions that came and went, but the LP is hardly gone. In fact, vinyl sales have consistently been the only part of the music industry that has seen growth and consistent profit over the last several years.

As a DJ and avid music collector, I end up buying somewhere between 3-5 LPs every month (and that doesn't count vinyl singles which as you posted are very different from LPs).

Check out sites like www.turntablelab.com and you'll see that not only are LPs still coming out every single week, but the market is alive and well.

Great blog, great idea on the inventions no longer in use, but the LP record is NOT a "wildly popular invention that came and went during McCain's lifetime."
