The Shopping Cart is younger than John McCain.
This seems like something cavemen should have invented (God, I hate those stupid Geico commercials) - I mean, it’s wheels and a bucket. It couldn’t be simpler. So simple, in fact, that one would think that it not only pre-dates John McCain but that it would pre-date his parents and grandparents as well.
One would be wrong.

All the items on this list have a better chance of being elected than Nader.

The first few were funny… but no so much anymore.
You must have a lot of free time.

How about the ballpoint pen, invented in 1938? Before that, you needed to write with fountain pens.

Heh. Didn’t see that. It was one of the first things you mentioned. Never mind.

Dont mind those that post negative comments. Remember, you may have the time to maintain this valuable public service… they have the time to troll the internet looking for sites such as this, post negative feedback, and then come back again and again and again to see how their comments are being discussed.
I don’t know about you but, the latter sounds like substantially more free time to me.
Love the site. Keep it up!
Some others that come to mind: Cable tv 1948 and Tacoma Narrows Bridge 1940 (great content here http://www.enm.bris.ac.uk/anm/tacoma/tacoma.html)

Love the concept of this blog. One clarification, in re: your “About This Blog” blurb:
“If elected, he would be the oldest person to ever hold that office.”
In truth, he’d be just the oldest person inaugurated to that office. For example, Ronald Reagan was 69 on the day of his inauguration in 1981; but he was, if memory serves, several hundred years old by the time he left office.

It’s no surprise that the shopping cart wasn’t introduced till 1937. There wasn’t much point in it until the supermarket was popular.

You can just imagine a cute little ‘McNasty’ sitting on that ickle orange seat facing his mommy as she wheels him through the aisles full of apple pie while he waggles his little feet - neither of them reckoning on what cruel fate one day awaited them - that a website would be set up to so mock and humiliate him that it destroys his chances of becoming the bestest POTUS America n/ever had. For shame!
