The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is younger than John McCain.

One of the more interesting and unexpected parts of this whole experience has been learning about things that have been completely off my radar - things like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Here are some of sections of this beautifully well-written and inspiring document that I find particularly moving:
Article 1.
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Article 5.
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment.
Article 18.
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
Article 21.
(3) The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.
I wonder how many of these rights - and others not mentioned here - have already been trampled by the Bush Administration and have been left unchallenged by the (so-called “liberal”) media. I wonder how many more will fall by the wayside if we elect “Bush” to a third term.
(Thanks to Odd for the tip!)

I like your blog, but I can’t help but point out that articles 2 and 25 arguably prohibit discrimination on the basis of age… just sayin’.

I don’t think the admin is saying that McCain should be prohibited from running ’cause of his age. He’s just saying, that people shouldn’t elect him.

indeed. in fact, i would go one step further and say that my point is that at his age is a valid concern and should at least be part of a dialogue about finding the most all-around qualified candidate.

If John McCain is older than the Universal declaration of human rights, does that mean he’s grandfathered (yes) in and doesn’t have to pay it any attention?
