Things younger than Republican Presidential candidate (oh, and did I forget to mention war hero?) John McCain

Am I being “age-ist”? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I’m thinking that it’s not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

“The Wizard of Oz”.

“The Wizard of Oz” is younger than John McCain.

I haven’t really done much on the blog with regard to movies because, well, let’s face it, most movies are younger than JMcC. But I thought that I’d do “The Wizard of Oz” in honor of Gay Pride Weekend, where - at least in my neighborhood - there will probably be a lot of guys dressed up like Dororthy (no, really, there will be. Apparently - and I just learned this from a friend yesterday - the gay-equivalent of alcoholics recognizing each other as being a “friend of Bill W.” is to say that you’re a “friend of Dorothy”.)

So anyway, there’s a lot of trivia surrounding this movie - everything from Buddy Ebson’s allergies to the whole stoner-nonsense about “Dark Side of The Moon” but my new favorite has got to be the one that “Elvira” sent me… which is that the “munchkins” are credited at the end of the film as “The Singer Midgets”.

Nice. Midgets.

  1. Hate to quibble, but it’s the Dark Side of the Moon that supposedly syncs with the Wizard of Oz, not the Wall. Interestingly, both the moon and walls are younger than John McCain.

  4. Hey !
    I’m french (and I’m young) so my english is… hmmm… atrocious ?
    This blog is really funny.
In France we consider McCain (and Bush… setting aside (?) our President, who is atrocious too and who totally idolize GWB !!!) as a
big threat… more than all the other americans ! :P
But we havn’t a such sens of humour about our politician !
Do you know that this blog appeared on the french TV ?

Well, we french are stronger than you !
Our personal political best treath is older than John McCain ! “Jean-Marie Le Pen” (a kind of nazi) is born in 1928!!!, and he still hopes to become the french president. Amazing…
But today he begins (just begins) to be politically dead (and ruined…)

  5. Thanks for picking up on my tip. The Wizard of Oz is the only musical that I can think of that has a song that celebrates the death of a character. Imagine if someone tried to write Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead and insert it into a musical today. They’d be sent straight to the shrink for some intense psychotherapy!

  10. I’m a professional fag, and I can tell you that “friend of Dorothy” is very rarely used among us fags. Anyone who uses that phrase demonstrates him- or herself to be fairly fag-ignorant. That phrase probably stopped being widely used among us fags in the 1980s, maybe in the early 1990s.

That phrase is, though, of course, younger than John Fossil Fool McCain. ;)

  12. “Friend of Dorothy” predates the connection between The Wizard of Oz and the gay rights movement by decades. The “Dorothy” in question is Dorothy Parker, not Dorothy Gale.
