Things younger than Republican Presidential candidate (oh, and did I forget to mention war hero?) John McCain

Am I being “age-ist”? Maybe. But maybe not. The world is a pretty complicated place right now and I’m thinking that it’s not such a great time to elect our oldest President ever. So sue me.

War of the Worlds.

War of the Worlds is younger than John McCain.

Broadcast around Halloween in 1938, the radio adaptation of the H.G. Wells classic was seen as actual news and led some to believe that a Martian invasion was in progress. According to Wikipedia (so you know it’s true!), some people fled their homes while others simply pee’d their pants (OK, I made up the last part).
Tell me Fox couldn’t pull this off today…

  4. One of my faves. There’s no doubt people did actually wet themselves when the radio broadcast aired.

I’ll keep sending tips even though I have yet to get a shout out for any of the many I sent that made it since.

  11. Hey, that photo is from My Favorite Martian! –Which, by the way, McCain wouldn’t have seen till he was 27!

  12. John McCain is NOT older than War of the Worlds. Just because the other Wells did a radio show that created a big stir 40 years later doesn’t mean that War of Worlds wasn’t already written in 1898!

  13. #12,

I mention that I’m talking about Orson Welles’ radio broadcast.

  14. Yes, JM is older than My Favorite Martian, (which is the picture displayed on your site.
As for War of the Worlds, H.G. Wells would have to have be 38 years older than he is now, that is correct, Wells wrote the original in 1898.
this is why you should always check your facts.
