Maybe this is because McCain is younger than many of these “new-fangled” countries he has to keep track of:

Pakistan: split from British India in 1947
Israel (state): also 1947

…and he’s just barely younger than Iran (which was Persia until 1935).

It’s got to be so hard for him to keep track of all of these. Let’s do this guy a favor and put him out to pasture.
